We would like to introduce your Captains for 2017
Club Captain 2020
MESSAGE FROM THE CAPTAIN
I will start by saying it is a privilege and honour to have been asked to be Captain of Wearside Golf Club by outgoing Captain Malcolm Bosanko.
This will be my 20th year as a member and have enjoyed my time thoroughly, having made many new friendships over the years as well as re-establishing old ones.
The team will play in the First Division again this year and it will be an interesting and challenging time for all involved. Hopefully members will follow the team during the year and I know the players appreciate any support that is forthcoming.
Following on from a successful team year will be a tough act to follow, so fingers crossed.
As in recent years the Club is continuing to make steady progress on all fronts and this is to the benefit of all of our membership. Having served on the Committee for several years, I realise how hard everyone works and including many other unpaid volunteers, they are invaluable to the Club and I hope we all can continue to support them in their efforts, as at sometimes it can be a thankless task.
I will also thank in advance all members of staff who help to ensure the smooth running of the Club.
The greenstaff and Greens Committee are constantly striving to maintain the standards they have set making the course one of the best in the County. The changes to the 5th and other programmed work will no doubt enhance this. As members we can all help by following the 3 ‘R’ Rule:
R – Replace divots.
R – Rake Bunkers.
R – Repair pitch marks.
I have asked Trevor Peat to be my Vice-Captain and I was delighted when he accepted. Trevor has represented the Club on many occasions and I feel his experience will be very helpful throughout the year. I wish him well in his role and hope you will support him in his year as Vice-Captain.
I will take this opportunity to thank all of the sponsors of the Club in their various guises. Their contribution helps to maintain the high standards of the Club both off and on the course.
My good wishes for the year go to the other Captains of the Club namely,
Lady Captain – Ann Donkin
Senior Captain – Anthony Bell
Junior Captain – David Holgate
My chosen charity this year is Mini Miracles which is the Premature Baby Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. I have ultimate respect and appreciation for the care and effort they put into their work. Having had first-hand experience of how they go about the task which is at a particularly worrying and stressful time for parents and families involved. I hope you will support me in this.
Finally I hope you all have a great year filled with good golf and many happy memories.

Lady Captain 2020
Message from the Ladies Captain
I am delighted to be the Lady Captain at Wearside Golf Club for 2020 and will do my very best to represent the ladies section and to carry out the duties of Lady Captain in the forthcoming year. I was honoured that Anne Kirk asked me to be her Vice-Captain in 2019 and it gives me great pleasure to announce that Gillian Patterson has kindly accepted my request to be my Vice Captain.
It doesn’t seem like 10 years since I walked on to the practice field at a ‘Get into Golf’ session to try my hand at this great sport. I was only giving it a try and little did I know within 2 years I would be playing more than my husband and son. I always extend my love of the game and our lovely course to others, especially when playing with and meeting other golfers and non-golfers alike.
I would like to wish both the Anderson and Sivewright teams and their respective captains the very best for the coming year. We may only have a small ladies section but our ladies are committed and enthusiastic of the section, supporting both club and team competitions.
I look forward to working with the 2020 Club Captain, Steve Belchamber, and would like to extend my best wishes to him as well as wishing success to the main Gents, Senior and Junior teams for 2020.
Finally, I would like to wish all of our members a great year of golf in 2020 and look forward to many, many years of golfing ahead.

Junior Captain 2020
Message from the Junior Captain
It is an absolute pleasure to be chosen as the Junior Captain in 2020. I would like to thank William Girdwood for his contribution to the Junior Section during his time as captain. As you may already be aware, the junior section has gained many new members this year, with the club competitions being very well supported. Junior members have also played in events such as the Northern Junior Golf Tour, Wee Wonders, the Blue Tee League as well as many other competitions around the area (and further afield as well), with notable success being achieved by many of the Junior Section.
I look forward to supporting Steve, the JLO, with his work to move the section forward, and I will do all I can to make sure the section continues to thrive in the future, with the aim of having a team in the Junior League this year.
Thank you to all the members for their continued support of Junior Golf at Wearside Golf Club.
Junior Captain 2020.
